As an only child caring for my mum through her dementia journey, I know the emotional and physical toll it takes. For years, I balanced full-time work with organising support staff, cleaners, meal preparation, and companion care — often on little or no sleep.

As an only child caring for my mum through her dementia journey, I know the emotional and physical toll it takes.

At 85, her dementia progressed to the point where I, as an only child, had to make the heartbreaking decision to move her into a nursing home. It was one of the hardest experiences of my life.
